Description

Marks of the Beast is a combination of Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness and C. S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, following the Rapture of the church.

The “Event”, as it is called by the Community of world leaders, is based on a desire to eliminate Christians so that society can move on and rebuild. A band of high-tech teens discover the truth and the battle lines are drawn. Although the human characters are fictional, the locations, physical details, and technologies are accurately depicted. The supernatural characters portrayed are as real as you and I. They typically remain hidden in the spiritual realm, rarely exposing themselves to us as we live out our lives in the physical realm. Yet their influence on our day-to-day lives could not be more significant. Ultimately, our willingness to accept the reality of their existence and align ourselves either on the side of good or evil will determine our eternal future.

Prologue……..
John Shepherd woke up abruptly, rested but nervous. The desire for sleep was always a competition between sheer exhaustion and the fear of what he would wake up to. For a Christian without the Mark, nothing was easy, and no one was safe. Every day was a struggle for survival. There was no escape or peace hidden in the shadows of relentless pursuit and ultimate persecution. Losing his mom and dad in the Rapture initially left him alone; having just turned seventeen, all his bravado on being his own “man” and setting his own course in life evaporated in the crushing reality of the event to end all events, or so he thought. What John did not realize at the time was that he was at the very beginning of a journey that would take him deep into a world rarely seen by human beings, yet one that had existed since nearly the beginning of time. A world of black and white, where no shades of gray could exist. A battleground between powerful forces the likes of which man could not even imagine. The outcome of the war had always been certain, but that made the battles no less staggering in their scope. John and a small group of friends were chosen to take part in the raging spiritual battle between the forces of good and evil, experiencing the consequences of that war, a day-to-day struggle for continued survival.
